How big is the Candy Shorts catalogue? It quadrupled

The Shorts catalogue went from 24 series to 108 in twelve days, and the grid still leaves out seven more. Here is why every figure carries an asterisk.

Posted · revised

The main complaint about Shorts used to be that the catalogue was small, and the first draft of this piece said so as well. Twelve days later the catalogue stood at more than four times its earlier size, so the complaint no longer held.

Two things are at stake here. One is a number that never stays still. The other is the unit it is counted in, and that unit was wrong even while the number was small.

The number and its date

The grid held 115 live series on 25 September 2026, counted across every tab after scrolling the infinite scroll to the bottom.

Counting the same way on 10 September gave 24. This is no correction of a miscount: the whole grid was loaded on both dates. Between them the catalogue grew from 24 to 108 in twelve days, and it has not stopped.

Any number quoted for this platform, including ours, has to carry a date. An undated catalogue count is decoration and nothing more.

The usual comparison

The obvious move is to put that count next to a tube site’s tens of thousands and decide this is a small affair. It is an understandable reaction, but the comparison does not hold up, because the two numbers count different things.

A clip site lists single videos. This catalogue lists series, each built from a premise, a cast and numbered episodes that you watch in sequence, and each can keep growing when new episodes are produced. Typically a series has five episodes, while the strongest reach fifteen. When a series has grown since your last visit, its card carries a pink New Episodes flag.

Measured in viewing time, 115 series amount to far more than 115 videos, and how much more depends on the series you choose. The cards still show no episode count, which is the one number that would settle it. Leaving that out drew fair criticism when the catalogue had 24 entries, and at 115 the gap matters even more.

What actually limits you

The limit is not the total. It is the number of series, out of 115, that you yourself would watch.

Above the grid there are thirteen category filters. Pick the one or two that suit you and the catalogue narrows from 115 down to a shortlist. That shortlist is the size that counts, and it is the thing people are reacting to when the catalogue seems thin to them.

When there were 24 series, a shortlist might be a handful and you could finish it. With 115, most tastes will not run out. Anyone who rejected Shorts in early September over the catalogue’s size should know that objection has lapsed.

Why the grid does not show everything

We needed two attempts to get this right, and it is the reason for an asterisk on the count above. Of the 24 series counted the first time, five have vanished from the candyshorts.com grid. Our first guess was that they had been taken down. That guess was wrong.

The five carry the platform’s Spicy tag. No Spicy series ever shows on the candyshorts.com grid, since that site lacks the filter entirely. Inside candy.ai they still exist, filed under a tag you must already know about, and seven series are there, which nobody counting on the other site would see.

For the grid you can browse, 115 is the honest number; for the catalogue as a whole it is not. That drawback is worse than a small library would be. A small library can be judged before you pay, whereas a catalogue with a hidden shelf makes what you judge differ from what you buy.

In practice, base your decision on the grid as it looks today, and avoid a twelve-month plan taken for the sake of one particular series.

Judging it without paying

The platform is strong here. Browsing costs nothing and needs no subscription: you see every card, title, badge and premise, and much of it even without an account. Apply your filters, count your own shortlist, and only then think about paying.

You also get episode one free on every series we checked. Episode two either plays at once or asks for a free sign-up first. No card shows where the paywall starts, though exactly where the line falls is covered on its own page. Those two episodes let you answer the one question that counts, namely whether there are enough series here you want to watch, without paying anything.

Apply the same logic when choosing a plan. The annual plan costs €3.99 a month, and 115 series is plenty of viewing for that price. Even so, the churn argues for starting on a monthly plan, so you can confirm that what you want to watch stays on offer.
